The CEO of Facebook has spoken about all the recent claims regarding the invasion of privacy. I will post articles below where this can be read, but the principles in which Facebook operates are as follows:
-- You have control over how your information is shared.
-- We do not share your personal information with people or services you don't want.
-- We do not give advertisers access to your personal information.
-- We do not and never will sell any of your information to anyone.

Basically what he says is that how much info that is shared on Facebook is up to the users. He wants everyone to share more because it'll better connect the world. They will make the privacy controls easier so that the user can opt-out of what information will be shared, but not that they will keep form sharing our info. He also makes no apologies, or anything that can be construed as an apology.
Here's another article based on what Zuckerberg originally wrote:
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/05/zuckerberg-speaks/ and this is talked about on CNET Buzz Out Loud episode 1234.
CNet Buzz Out Loud also talks about it in episode 1237, that the default settings will be to share everything. Users will be in control, based on their privacy settings, what is shared and what is private.

Privacy is such a Hot topic today. Every where you go whether it is the bank, pharmacy, or doctors office, you are given a privacy notice. You would think the same rules would apply to FaceBook. They should have to protect their users privacy just like every other company out there. They should be worried about the possible issues they could be facing with their privacy settings. Yes facebook users should be responsible for checking their privacy settings, but FaceBook should hold some of that responsibility too. I don't see how they can get away with it...
ReplyDeletePeople need to understand that everything posted on a computer is not private. Think about it, when a crime is committed the first thing crime scene investigators do is remove the computers and go through them to look for past inquiries, posts, and or emails.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, a persons Facebook status and or blogs should not be open books either. I agree that Facebook should do more to protect its customers. After all with out Facebook'ers, where would Mr. Zuckerburg be? Privacy settings should be easier to understand and user friendly.
Facebook needs to step up its privacy polices and the average Facebook'er needs to get smart about what they post.
I think that it is not Zuckerburg's fault when concerning privacy and facebook. If you only want one person to view your facebook page, you have the ability to do that through your page and a privacy tab. Most people do not know facebook well enough to know how to set certain privacy setting on their computer, but there are so many settings for almost everything you can imagine. I also think that people are not careful with logging out of their account, and also they do not set their passwords hard enough. When someone can easily guess one's password, of course someone's privacy will be violated. I think that it is the users of facebook's responsibility to know or find out how to set their privacy settings and not Zuckerburg's.
